Location Guide
Taormina
Taormina is one of the most photogenic towns in the Mediterranean. Perched on Monte Tauro with sweeping views of the Ionian Sea and Mount Etna, it offers an extraordinary range of backdrops — from ancient Greek theatres and medieval streets to lush botanical gardens and dramatic coastal cliffs. As a photographer based here since 2019, I have mapped every corner worth shooting.
Best For
- Wedding ceremonies with sea and Etna views
- Golden hour portraits on the Corso Umberto
- Editorial fashion shoots in baroque courtyards
- Engagement sessions at the Greek Theatre
- Family portraits in the Giardini della Villa Comunale
Best Time to Shoot
April to June and September to October offer the best light and manageable crowds. Golden hour in summer starts around 19:00, giving long, warm sessions. Winter brings dramatic skies and empty streets — perfect for moody editorial work.
Photographer Tips
- Arrive 30 minutes before golden hour to scout and set up
- The Greek Theatre requires a permit for commercial shoots — book 2 weeks ahead
- Corso Umberto is quietest before 09:00 and after 20:00
- Isola Bella is best accessed via the cable car from Taormina centro
- Wind can be strong at elevated viewpoints — bring clips for wardrobe
