Location Guide
Isola Bella
Isola Bella is a tiny island connected to the mainland by a narrow sand strip, sitting in a sheltered bay beneath Taormina. Designated a nature reserve, it combines turquoise waters, weathered rocks, and lush Mediterranean vegetation into a compact but visually rich setting. The interplay of water, stone, and light here is unlike anywhere else in Sicily.
Best For
- Romantic couple portraits on the sand strip
- Pre-wedding shoots with turquoise water backdrop
- Fashion editorials with natural rock textures
- Sunrise sessions with dramatic east-facing light
- Intimate elopement ceremonies on the beach
Best Time to Shoot
Early morning (before 09:00) for empty beaches and soft side-light. Late afternoon gives warm golden tones reflected off the water. The nature reserve has seasonal opening hours — check before planning winter shoots.
Photographer Tips
- Access is via steps from the road above or cable car — allow extra time with equipment
- The sand strip floods at high tide — check tide tables
- A small entrance fee applies to the nature reserve area
- Drone permits are restricted in the nature reserve zone
- Best parking is at the Mazzarò car park, then walk or take the cable car
